RESEARCH STUDIES
Theragauze – Wound Dressings for Diabetic Foot Ulcers
March 2009 - Ankle & Foot Care Centers and Soluble Solutions, based in Newport News, VA., teamed up on a research project designed to advance the treatment of diabetic foot ulcers. The study involved diabetic patients who had ulcers on the bottoms of their feet for at least four weeks. As part of this research, the physicians at Ankle & Foot Care Centers utilized 'living-skin equivalents' or patches of laboratory-grown skin, and one of three types of wound dressings. The purpose of the study was to determine the effectiveness of a new wound dressing in conjunction with skin graft on the healing of diabetic foot ulcers.
ACFAS – A Multi-Center Retrospective Review of Resectional Arthroplasty, Arthordesis, and Hemi-Metallic Joint Implants in the Surgical Treatment of End Stage Hallux Rigidus
Ankle & Foot Care Centers was selected by the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons to participate in a retrospective study on the long-term efficacy of joint resection, joint fusion, and hemi-metallic first MTPJ implants. The results of this study will provide valuable information to foot and ankle surgeons in making appropriate decisions regarding the treatment of end stage hallux rigidus.
Celleration – Wound Care
Ankle & Foot Care Centers participated in clinical research of a new wound healing device, the MIST Therapy® System. MIST Therapy is a painless non-contact ultrasound device that promotes wound healing through cellular stimulation while removing bacteria from the wound allowing clinicians to heal wounds faster. The scientific investigation of MIST Therapy involved a randomized, double blind, sham-controlled, multi-center clinical trial in diabetic foot ulcers. For additional information, click on the following link: http://www.celleration.com
Storz – Heel Pain
Ankle & Foot Care Centers was selected as 1 of 6 sites in the United States to investigate the effectiveness and safety of extracorporeal shock wave therapy for patients suffering from painful heel syndrome. The device being tested a Storz Duolith SD1. The results of this study will be used to support an application for FDA approval. The Duolith works by emitting pressure impulses through a hand-piece positioned by the doctor on your skin over the area being treated. This is a non-invasive procedure. Candidates to participate in this study are those have not achieved adequate heel pain relief from prior conservative treatments.
EpiFlo – Diabetic Foot Wounds
The Epiflo® device, which is smaller than a deck of cards, applies concentrated oxygen to tightly wrapped wounds. This FDA-approved treatment jump-starts the body's own healing process.
We're inviting patients with diabetic wounds to participate in our 12-week research study. There's no cost to the patient. To learn more, call us at (888) 881-8805.
