Lower extremity wounds can be painful and even dangerous, particularly to patients who suffer from diabetes. Diabetic wounds like ulcers and sores can lead to infection, or worse, complications such as amputations. This patient presented with a diabetic foot ulcer on plantar aspect of the 1st metatarsal. The patient previously received traditional wound care treatments, but the ulcer persisted. The patient was diagnosed with a muscle tendon imbalance, which caused a constant ‘pressure sore’ on the bottom of the patient’s foot. An outpatient procedure was performed to repair this imbalance, and—in conjunction with subsequent wound care treatment—the patient healed within weeks without re-occurrence. The correction of the underlying problem is key to successful wound healing.
