NOMS Ankle & Foot Care Centers Partners with Salvation Army Deliver Hundreds of Shoes, Socks to Individuals in Need

(YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - January 30, 2020) - Several hundred pairs of shoes and socks collected through the NOMS Ankle & Foot Care Centers annual holiday drive were recently donated to the Salvation Army of Mahoning Valley, which will provide them to individuals and families in need at its distribution centers.

Across its network of 19 locations in northeastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania, NOMS Ankle & Foot Care Centers collected new and nearly new shoes donated by employees, podiatrists, patients, friends and local businesses from late November through early January.

"Each year we're grateful to have the support of our physicians, staff, patients and the general community, to come together and help those in need," said Michael Vallas, practice administrator at NOMS Ankle & Foot Care Centers. "Nobody should have to go without proper footwear - especially during the winter.

"We have been partnering with the Salvation Army for more than 20 years and we're glad to have such a great organization as the extended hand that delivers these shoes and socks to people in our local community."

The local Salvation Army sees more than 100 individuals walk through its doors a day, said Major Paul Moore, who has been working with NOMS Ankle & Foot Care Centers on the holiday shoe drive for the past three years.

"The shoes and socks that are donated each year provide hundreds of people with access to footwear that they wouldn't have otherwise," said Major Moore. "So, we're glad to have the support from organizations like NOMS Ankle & Foot Care Centers and everyone who participated in this drive."

The group has collected thousands of pairs of shoes and socks since it began the drive in 1998.

NOMS Ankle & Foot Care Centers is the region's largest podiatric care provider, with physicians and surgeons serving patients at 19 local offices, located in Alliance, Andover, Austintown, Boardman (2), Campbell, Champion, Columbiana, Cornersburg, East Liverpool, East Palestine, Greenville (Pa.), Niles, Poland, Ravenna, Salem, Struthers, Warren and Youngstown.
