Ankle & Foot Care Centers Holiday Drive Collects Hundreds of Pairs of Shoes, Socks

(YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - February 1, 2019) - Several hundred pairs of shoes and socks collected through the Ankle & Foot Care Centers holiday drive were recently donated to the Salvation Army, which will provide them to individuals and families in need this winter.

Across its network of 20 locations in northeastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania, Ankle & Foot collected new and nearly new shoes donated by employees, podiatrists, patients, friends and local businesses from late November through early January. The shoes and socks will be available to local individuals and families at the Salvation Army distribution centers.

"Our physicians and staff firmly believe that everyone should have access to good shoes and socks, especially during these cold winter months," said Michael Vallas, practice administrator at Ankle & Foot Care Centers. "That's why we make this drive a priority each year. We have been partnering with the Salvation Army for more than 20 years and would like to thank its professionals and our community for their support."

The Mahoning Valley Salvation Army feeds more than 100 individuals a hot meal a day, said Major Paul Moore, who has been working with Ankle & Foot Care Centers on the holiday shoe drive for the past two years.

"We see so many people walk in and out of our doors in a week, looking for food, shelter, clothing and other resources," said Major Moore. "So, we're grateful to have the support from organizations like Ankle & Foot Care Centers. This shoe and sock drive will give hundreds of people access to footwear they wouldn't have otherwise."

Ankle & Foot has collected thousands of pairs of shoes and socks since it began the drive in 1998.

Ankle & Foot Care Centers is the region's largest podiatric care provider, with physicians and surgeons serving patients at 20 local offices, located in Alliance, Andover, Austintown, Boardman (2), Campbell, Champion, Columbiana, Cornersburg, East Liverpool, East Palestine, Greenville (Pa.), Liberty, Niles, Poland, Ravenna, Salem, Struthers, Warren and Youngstown.
