Dr. Kwame Williams of Ankle & Foot Care Centers Honored as Community Leader, Role Model
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (February 28, 2019) - Dr. Kwame Williams, a podiatric foot and ankle surgeon at Ankle & Foot Care Centers, was among the honorees of the recent Black Diamond Leadership brunch that recognized role models in the Mahoning Valley's African American community.
The Links, Inc., a women's service group, recognized and honored black men who serve as leaders in the community and in their professional and personal lives.
"I'm very humbled to have received this recognition and honor," said Dr. Williams. "I'm grateful to have great parents who instilled in me a strong work ethic and to have a supportive staff that makes me look good."
When he's not at work, Dr. Williams is spending time with his 8-year-old son and coaching youth athletics. He's a basketball and football coach year around.
He volunteers as a coach for the Junior Cavs Basketball League, which is a program available to boys and girls ages five to 15 at the YMCA of Youngstown. In the summer, he coaches a Mahoning Valley Youth Basketball Association Junior NBA team, which includes skills camps, in addition to games and practices. In the spring and fall, he coaches a Youngstown Youth Flag Football Association team. Dr. Williams coaches his son and 15-20 youth athletes across the three leagues.
"As someone who played sports my whole life, including playing football in college, I feel it's my job as a physician to give back to that area that has shaped me and feel that I can offer what I know from a sports medicine perspective to my son and other kids from a young age," said Dr. Williams.
The Pittsburgh native joined Ankle & Foot Care Centers in 2009. He sees patients at the practice's offices in Boardman and Youngstown. Dr. Williams resides in Boardman.
Dr. Williams earned a doctor of podiatric medicine degree from the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine in Cleveland in 2004. He earned a bachelor's degree in biology in 1999 from Brown University in Providence, R.I., where he was a running back and four-year starter in football. He completed his podiatric residency training at Forum Health in 2007 and completed a fellowship with Ankle & Foot Care Centers in 2008.
"We're proud to have Dr. Williams as part of our team of physicians," said Michael Vallas, practice administrator at Ankle & Foot Care Centers. "He goes above and beyond in everything he does and this award speaks to the level of impact he has on his family, patients, co-workers and the community. Please join us in congratulating him."
